Formlabs
June 2017 - August 2017
In the Summer of 2017. I worked at the print farm of Formlabs (add link to company). as a print production intern at Formlabs, in their print farm. Formlabs manufactures easy-to-use and affordable desktop 3D printers (SLS and SLA). The print farm consists of 30+ printers that were in constant use printing marketing parts and custom models for a variety of clients and market verticals. The internship at Formlabs enabled me to be in a fast-paced working environment, involved in end-use of 3D printing from A to Z. In addition to daily maintenance of the 3D printers, and quality control on each print, below are some examples of projects I did:
The problem: because of the volume of tanks used in the print farm, some tanks used to be thrown out with some uncured resin in them (which is a slight environmental concern)
Solution: designed/created a modular system to retrofit tank covers with UV strips to cure resin
The UV strips on the top of the covers allowed dirty tanks to be cured from the top and bottom.
Not pictured: me with UV-blocking glasses
Modular: can make a large stackable tower of UV-embedded tanks to simultaneously cure an indefinite amount of tanks
After only 45 seconds, this is what the resin ends up looking like,
Wrote a program that automatically sets alarms based on what resin you put into which curing chamber
Designed swatch set (took many iterations) for marketing promos and events
Sets of every resin
Designed stamps to label sample boxes, saving time
Used White and Flex resin
